SuperMinds Talk: Nature inspired software engineering for distributed logistics systems by Rinde van Lon
On October 27, at SuperMinds, imec's annual community event, Rinde van Lon presented his ongoing PhD research on bio-inspired optimisation. In his presentation Rinde shows that ants are individually following simple rules, but as a collective they are capable of doing amazing things such as creating bridges. A class of software that is partly inspired by ant behaviour is called multi-agent systems. By combining multi-agent systems with another bio-inspired technique, namely genetic programming, Rinde created algorithms that solve logistics problems that outperform traditional approaches.
