Bert Lagaisse

Bert Lagaisse is a senior industrial research manager at the imec-DistriNet research group. He incepts multiple research tracks and manages a portfolio of applied research projects on cloud technologies and security middleware, typically in close collaboration with industrial partners. He has a strong interest in distributed systems, in enterprise middleware, cloud platforms and security services. Bert is experienced with industrial valorization of research as well as the cross-fertilization between academic know-how and industrial expertise in multi-partner industrial projects.

Bert initiates and leads cloud and security projects focusing on secure and distributed software architectures: including application-level access control in cloud applications, scalable SaaS platforms, secure and scalable data access middleware, application architectures for private and public blockchains, as well as auto-scaling in hybrid clouds.

Bert obtained his MsC in computer science at K.U.Leuven in 2003. Back then he worked on a comparison between J2EE and .NET,  focusing on multi-tier architectures and on security services . In 2009, Bert finished his PhD in computer science with a dissertation on customization of enterprise middleware platforms using aspect-oriented and component-based software development techniques. 

In 2013, Bert Lagaisse acquired an Industrial Research Fellowship (IOF mandate) within the imec-DistriNet research group of KU Leuven; this mandate enables him to focus on research, innovation and especially valorization in the domain of managing large-scale distributed software systems and cloud computing. Bert Lagaisse is the project manager of multiple imec-ICON projects. He also leads the consulting activities related to cloud computing.
